Access control is the prevention of personalized and selective entry into certain places, areas or resources. This is most often seen in homes at doors and entrances to homes, where the property can be protected by tangible devices such as keys or key cards, personnel identifiers such as fingerprints or optical scanning, or even information only known by certain individuals, such as passwords or numeric code.
Types of Access Control at Home
In the context of the household, Access Control System mostly comes in two forms: mechanical keys that require physical keys to access entries to the domicile or electromechanical keys involving magnetic readers or other forms of card readers to operate keys.
Mechanical locks have the advantage of being cheaper than most electromechanical options; they have fewer maintenance requirements and are generally more user-friendly. In addition, key requirements ensure that individuals do not only need to memorize passwords or codes to access properties.
On the other hand, most mechanical keys, if not all, cannot determine who has received the goods. It is also true that keys can be stolen and duplicated, and keys can be taken by people who are not good.
Electromechanical keys have the benefit of preventing key duplication by requiring access based on esoteric knowledge such as passwords, or even body parts specifically for individuals who are allowed to enter, such as fingerprint scanning.
When to Use Access Control at Home
Access control can be considered too expensive, too complicated, and even seen by some as too paranoid if used in the wrong place. It should not be used in places that require everyday access by many people. In fact, most access controls must be used in moderation.
Places with limited access must be restricted to areas with hazards such as storing chemicals in the home, such as medicine cabinets, cleaning cabinets, or rooms containing important valuables. The entrance can be kept under lock and key, but the electronic key must hold back from within the household except for valuables inside are similar to ATM machines.
